marine atlas & data library: definitions
- feature – an element of biodiversity or human use identified by participants of ecological workshops or the human use data working group. Examples include broad ecological units, species occurrence, habitat or distribution, physical or oceanographic features, or areas used by different marine user groups such as shipping or commercial fisheries.
- atlas page – map illustrating one or more features, includes an explanatory facing page; delivered in pdf format
- metadata – data about data; meets FGDC standard; delivered in html format
- feature data – GIS/spatial data for a feature; delivered in shapefile format with XML metadata
- feature metadata –information about how feature data was compiled and features created; delivered in html format
- marxan-ready data – GIS/spatial data for a feature quantified into BCMCA 2 km x 2 km planning units; delivered in shapefile format with XML metadata
- marxan metadata –feature metadata plus information about how feature data was quantified into BCMCA 2 km x 2 km planning units for use in Marxan analyses; delivered in html format
