the analysis
Our report on a series of Marxan scenarios is available to download: BCMCA: A Series of Marxan Scenarios for Pacific Canada (10 MB PDF)
The report describes how Marxan works and details the methods that BCMCA used:
- to identify potential areas of high conservation value (using ecological data only).
- to identify areas important to human use (using human use data only).
At this time, the report presents ecological scenario results and includes 18 results maps for 6 different ecological scenarios, illustrating potential areas of high conservation value. Results for scenarios using human use data are currently under review.
We also prepared an animation series of ecological results to show how the spatial arrangement of solutions shifts as targets change or as the level of clumping changes. Read the report then check out these animated maps and watch what happened to scenario results when:
We used different levels of expert recommended targets (low-med-high) and kept clump size medium.
We used different levels of Project Team recommended targets (low-med-high) and kept clump size medium.
We used medium expert recommended targets, but varied the clump size in the results.
We used medium Project Team recommended targets, but varied the clump size in the results.
